Formula of Marks to Percentage
Despite academic percentage is also important in real life. That’s why learning percentage calculation is important for everyone. The formula for percentage calculation is
Percentage = Obtained Marks / Total Marks × 100
For example, a student secured 36 marks out of 50
Percentage = 36/50 × 100
Percentage = 72%
If you want to calculate percentages of more than 1 subject, before putting values in the formula, add the secured marks and total marks. For example, you want to find the percentage of a student who got 70,82, and 92 marks in three subjects. The total marks of each subject are 100.
Add the secured marks: 70+82+92 = 244
Add the total marks of subjects: 100+100+100 = 300
Percentage = 244/300 × 100
Percentage = 81.33%
So the student got 81.33% marks in the three subjects

Calculate Percentage Increase or Decrease
You can also use percentage formulas to measure changes in marks or scores over time.
Percentage Increase
Formula:
[(New – Old) / Old] × 100
Example:
Old Score = 60, New Score = 75
Increase = [(75 – 60) / 60] × 100 = 25% Increase
Percentage Decrease
If you’re a teacher or admin trying to find the average percentage score for a class, use this method:
Sum the total marks of all students.
Divide by the number of students.
Divide again by the maximum marks and multiply by 100.
Example:
Marks: 70, 80, 90, 60
Average Marks = (70 + 80 + 90 + 60) / 4 = 75
If max marks are 100:
Average Percentage = (75 / 100) × 100 = 75%
